From 1 October 2026, that sneaky little “+1.5% for card payments” line is officially declined. The RBA has called time on surcharging across Eftpos, Mastercard and Visa, so the price you advertise is the price you charge (no more last-minute surprises at checkout). But before you tap out, there’s more to it. The merchant fee isn’t vanishing, it’s just going undercover. Biz will still pay merchant service fees, but you can’t pass them on directly to customers anymore. That means it’s time to rethink your pricing, check your systems, and make sure you’re not accidentally leaving a surcharge lurking in your online checkout or invoice templates.
